Acne, also known as pimples in layman term is an inflammatory disorder whereby the hair follicles become plugged with excessive oil production from the sebaceous gland. There is also proliferation of bacteria called P. acnes on patient’s skin.
Scar, Keloid and
Scars occur as a result of injury to the skin and they can be caused by acne, trauma, burn or surgery. Keloids are raised thicker scars. Some patients are just prone to get keloids and it can be itchy and painful. Stretch marks happen during puberty, sudden weight gain, inappropriate use of potent topical or systemic steroid and pregnancy.
There are many causes of increase skin pigmentation such as post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (increase pigmentation after any cause of inflammation to the skin), Melasma, Hori’s nevus, Freckles, Lentigenes and birth marks. Treatment depends on the cause of pigmentation. Some are self limiting whereas some will require treatment such as topicals or laser.
Vitiligo is a skin condition that causes the skin to lose its colour completely until it becomes white.
Eczema and Skin Allergy
Eczema is inflammation of the skin. It can be caused by contact with allergic substances or genetic.
Urticaria is another skin allergy whereby it presents as itchy wheals. Causes depend on age of patient and duration of the condition.
In a normal skin, superficial skin is being shed off as fast as the new ones are forming. In psoriasis, the new cells grow too fast and that is why the skin is thick and scaly. Psoriasis is a skin condition whereby the immune system sends wrong signals to the cells to grow. Some patients may have family history of psoriasis.
Skin infection ranges from bacteria, fungus, virus to parasite.
Skin Cancer Screening / Biopsy / Surgery
Skin cancer is more accurately differentiated from benign tumour using a dermatoscope. If the tumour looks suspicious, skin biopsy or complete excision of the tumour can be done.
Hair and Nail disorder
Too many or too little hair is not good for your skin or scalp. There are many causes of hair loss or excessive hair growth. Identifying the cause is very important in order to prescribe the accurate treatment for the condition.
Sexually Transmitted Diseases
Sexually Transmitted Infections, also known as Sexually Transmitted Diseases or Venereal Disease are infections spread commonly spread through sex. Other modes of infection include infection during pregnancy and delivery spread to newborn and non-sexual contact with contaminated blood or tissues.
